Jesse Jackson Admitted to Hospital for PSP Treatment

Post by : Raina Nasser

Renowned civil rights figure Jesse Jackson has been admitted to the hospital for medical observation regarding progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). This neurodegenerative disorder has been part of his life for over a decade, as confirmed by the Rainbow PUSH Coalition on Thursday.

The 84-year-old Jackson was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, but it was only last April that his condition was formally identified as PSP. “The family expresses gratitude for all prayers during this challenging time,” the statement revealed, reaffirming Jackson’s notable strength in overcoming health issues.

A significant leader in the civil rights movement dating back to the 1960s, Jackson had a close relationship with his mentor, Martin Luther King Jr., and witnessed King’s assassination in Memphis in 1968. Over a lifetime dedicated to advocacy, he has fought tirelessly for the rights of African Americans and various marginalized groups.

Jackson disclosed his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2017, a progressive illness impacting his motor skills. He has also faced other medical setbacks, including hospitalizations in 2021 after contracting COVID-19 and an incident resulting in head injuries from a fall.

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition, which Jackson established, emerged from his 1971 initiative, “People United to Save Humanity,” combined with a coalition from his 1984 Democratic presidential campaign. The organization continues to advance social justice and civil rights, embodying Jackson’s lasting influence.

The news of Jackson’s hospitalization has elicited widespread concern and support from admirers and leaders globally, recognizing his unwavering dedication to advocacy for justice and equality. As he remains under medical observation, messages of goodwill and prayers for his recovery persist.
