Israel Deploys Iron Dome to UAE in Response to Iranian Attacks

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In a recent move, Israel has dispatched its advanced Iron Dome air defence system to the United Arab Emirates, responding to escalating Iranian missile attacks, as reported by Axios, referencing US and Israeli sources.

Accompanying the Iron Dome system are Israeli military personnel tasked with its operation. Renowned for its capability to intercept short-range rockets, drones, and missiles, the Iron Dome forms a critical aspect of Israel's defense mechanisms.

This deployment follows a series of Iranian strikes aimed at the UAE’s infrastructure amid the ongoing tensions involving the United States. Although many attacks were successfully neutralized, some still impacted both civilian and military sites, prompting serious concerns for Emirati leaders.

Reportedly, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reached out to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for immediate assistance. Subsequently, Netanyahu directed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to station an Iron Dome battery along with several defense operatives.

Officials confirm that the Iron Dome has significantly enhanced the UAE's air defense capabilities, with reports indicating it successfully intercepted numerous Iranian missiles. The attacks saw Iran fire approximately 550 ballistic and cruise missiles and more than 2,200 drones.

Notably, this marks a first for Israel, as the Iron Dome system has been deployed to another nation. The UAE now stands as the sole country outside of Israel and the United States to utilize this sophisticated defense mechanism.

This development is seen as a crucial step towards fortifying the defense partnership between the UAE and Israel. Officials from both nations affirmed the collaborative efforts during these hostilities. Military strategic experts have also noted the strengthening of ties through military support, intelligence sharing, and common diplomatic efforts.

UAE officials have hailed this assistance as a watershed moment, expressing gratitude for the backing of allies such as the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Australia.

The introduction of the Iron Dome is viewed as a transformative milestone in regional defense collaborations and a significant advancement in UAE-Israel diplomatic relations.
