Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has criticised former US President Donald Trump for making rude comments about Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump had claimed that he saved Ayatollah Khamenei from being killed.
Araghchi called Trump’s words “disrespectful and unacceptable”. He said if Trump truly wants to make a deal with Iran, he should stop using rude language towards the Supreme Leader. He also said that Trump should not hurt the feelings of millions of people who support Ayatollah Khamenei.
On social media platform X, Araghchi wrote that the Iranian people do not like threats or insults. He said they are strong and showed the world that Israel had to run for help to avoid Iran’s missiles.
Recently, the United States carried out airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Iran. These attacks happened last weekend, but experts are not sure how successful they were. The US joined Israel in attacking Iran’s nuclear programme during a 12-day conflict that started on June 13.
Trump made his comments on his Truth Social platform. He said he knew where Ayatollah Khamenei was hiding and stopped Israel or the US military from killing him. Trump said he saved Khamenei from a very terrible death and felt that Khamenei was ungrateful for this.
Trump also mentioned that he had been working on removing some sanctions against Iran, which is something Iran has wanted for a long time. However, he said he stopped working on it after seeing angry statements from Iran.
He said Iran should come back to the negotiating table. But Iran has denied that it will restart nuclear talks with the US, even though Trump said discussions would begin again next week.
