In northern Turkmenistan's Dashoguz velayat, silk producers have initiated a pivotal seasonal campaign focused on silkworm cocoon production. This effort significantly supports the textile sector and the rural economy within the country, garnering extensive participation throughout the region.
This year, close to 7,000 tenant farmers, along with 186 peasant farms and various farmers' associations, are engaged in the production efforts. The high level of involvement underlines the significance of silk farming and the dedication of local producers to meet their objectives.
Farmers in Dashoguz have accumulated considerable knowledge over the years regarding successful silkworm rearing, acknowledging that producing premium silk necessitates meticulous management at all stages. This encompasses ensuring that silkworm larvae are fed appropriately and that optimal environmental conditions are maintained during their development.
Thus, obtaining the correct temperature and humidity within rearing facilities receives focused attention. These conditions are crucial for silkworm health, and farmers adhere to precise schedules to guarantee timely feeding and care.
Furthermore, the quality of the mulberry leaves, the primary food source for silkworms, is vigilantly assessed. Nutritious and fresh leaves enhance cocoon quality and boost overall production. Preventive measures are instituted to safeguard silkworms from diseases throughout the rearing cycle.
With robust governmental support and well-established infrastructure, farmers possess confidence in reaching their production targets. The aim for this year is to gather 500 tons of raw silk material for the domestic textile industry.
The region has also cultivated a solid foundation for silk production through extensive mulberry plantations. Thousands of hectares are planted with mulberry trees, ensuring a reliable food source for silkworms during the season.
Annually, new saplings are cultivated in agricultural fields and near water sources to enhance these plantations. Such ongoing efforts contribute to the sustainable growth of sericulture in Dashoguz.
Overall, the silk production initiative in Dashoguz illustrates the region’s commitment to agricultural advancement and its contributions to the national economy. With effective planning and favorable conditions, success in achieving this year's target appears promising.
