Potential Delay for iPhone 18: New AI Features and Enhanced RAM Set to Impress

Potential Delay for iPhone 18: New AI Features and Enhanced RAM Set to Impress

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Recent reports indicate that Apple Inc. may defer the anticipated launch of the standard iPhone 18 from 2026 to 2027. This strategic shift suggests that the company will introduce the device alongside a lineup of new models.

Analyst Dan Nystedt highlights that the iPhone 18 is likely to feature 12GB of RAM, positioning it as the most RAM-equipped standard iPhone yet. This would be in line with the capabilities seen in the iPhone 17 Pro series, which saw a jump from 8GB in prior models.

Focus on Performance and AI Advancements

The increase in RAM appears to be part of Apple’s expanding commitment to AI functionalities. At the forthcoming developer event, the tech giant is expected to unveil enhanced AI applications and a revamped Siri, necessitating greater power and memory to function seamlessly.

Moreover, the development of a new A20 chipset, utilizing cutting-edge 2nm technology from TSMC, is reportedly underway. This chipset is anticipated to yield up to 15% improved performance while ensuring energy efficiency.

Possibility of a Staggered Launch

Sources suggest that Apple may implement a staggered launch approach to address supply chain challenges and rising expenses, particularly in light of global memory chip scarcity. Consequently, the standard iPhone 18 might debut alongside models like:

  • iPhone 18e

  • iPhone Air 2

Anticipated Features

Notwithstanding the potential delay, the iPhone 18 is expected to offer several exciting enhancements:

  • 6.3-inch OLED display featuring 120Hz ProMotion technology

  • Reduced Dynamic Island size (approximately 35% smaller)

  • 24MP front camera equipped with Centre Stage functionality

  • A streamlined Camera Control button utilizing pressure sensors only

Upcoming Foldable iPhone

Additionally, Apple is believed to be gearing up to introduce its first foldable iPhone, potentially named iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold, ahead of the iPhone 18.
