In a significant stride forward, Indonesia has enhanced its military prowess with the formal acquisition of several new defense aircraft, including six Rafale fighter jets from France, showcased during a Jakarta ceremony.
The handover, which took place at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base on Monday, was attended by President Prabowo Subianto, who oversaw the introduction of these new assets to the Indonesian Air Force.
The new equipment encompasses six Rafale jets, four Dassault Falcon 8X planes, and an Airbus A400M Atlas military transport aircraft, marking a key component of Indonesia’s comprehensive military modernization strategy.
Back in 2022, a deal worth $8.1 billion was signed with France when Prabowo was defense minister, aiming to procure a total of 42 Rafale jets to bolster the air force's capabilities.
Post-ceremony, President Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s commitment to bolstering defense capabilities amid rising global geopolitical uncertainties and regional security threats.
He reiterated that the nation aims to uphold stability and enhance deterrent capabilities, safeguarding Indonesia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Prabowo made it clear that Indonesia harbors no aggressive intentions, aspiring instead to secure national safety through a more capable and modernized military.
Military analysts assert that the inclusion of sophisticated aircraft like the Rafale jets will dramatically enhance Indonesia’s air defense and operational effectiveness within the Indo-Pacific region.
