Homebound, India’s official film for the 98th Academy Awards, is set for a digital release on Netflix on November 21.
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Dharma Productions, the film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. The project is supported by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with executive production from Martin Scorsese and Pravin Khairnar. Co-producers include Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan du Plantier.
The plot centers on lifelong friends Shoaib (Khatter) and Chandan (Jethwa), united by their aspiration to become police officers. Janhvi Kapoor takes on an essential emotional role as the film delves into themes of friendship, responsibility, and the challenges young people face in India.
Reflecting on the film's release, Ghaywan noted its great festival journey. He emphasized that Homebound draws inspiration from true stories, showcasing connection and compassion as a quiet form of resistance.
Karan Johar described the film as rich and intimate, expressing his enthusiasm for its global reach through Netflix.
Homebound received notable acclaim during film festivals, premiering in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, followed by a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it earned the title of Second Runner-Up for the International Audience Choice Award.
Beginning on November 21, Homebound will be available for exclusive streaming on Netflix.
