India Dominates Afghanistan at Lunch with 96/1 in Test Match

India showcased a strong performance in their one-off Test against Afghanistan at New Chandigarh, ending the first session at 96 for 1. After opting to bat first following a winning coin toss, the home team bounced back from an early loss and established a robust foundation thanks to an unbroken partnership between KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan.

The opening duo of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed 41 runs, providing a steady start. Both players appeared assured against the Afghan bowling attack, effectively rotating the strike and capitalizing on any loose deliveries.

Rahul enjoyed a lucky moment when he edged a delivery behind, which the umpire missed, and Afghanistan opted against a review. This proved beneficial as Rahul built his innings with increasing assurance as the session unfolded.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal played with flair, hitting five boundaries in a brisk innings of 24 runs off 32 balls, but the Afghan bowlers managed to get a breakthrough when Saleem Safi induced an edge, ending a promising partnership.

With Jaiswal's dismissal, Sai Sudharsan joined Rahul and ensured the innings saw no further disruption. Together, they frustrated the Afghan bowlers, adding vital runs and consolidating India’s position.

As the lunch break arrived, Rahul was unbeaten on 37 and Sudharsan stood at 32. Their measured batting provided India a commanding position after the initial session. Afghanistan's bowlers had their moments but struggled to maintain consistent pressure following their solitary wicket.

This match marks the second Test meeting between India and Afghanistan, following their first encounter in 2018, where India claimed a notable innings victory. The Indian side aims to capitalize on their strong position as they look to amass a significant first innings total while Afghanistan is eager to regain momentum through further breakthroughs.
