Tragic Death of Broadway's Young Nala, Imani Smith: Homicide Investigation Underway

Post by : Mina Rahman

Imani Smith, celebrated for her portrayal of Young Nala in Disney's illustrious Broadway version of The Lion King, has sadly passed away due to an alleged homicide, as confirmed by police and reports from Deadline. The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office has verified her death was a result of a stabbing incident that occurred on December 21 in Edison, New Jersey.

Responding to a 911 call, authorities discovered Smith with critical stab wounds. She was swiftly transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.

Jordan D. Jackson-Small, Smith’s boyfriend, has been arrested in relation to her death, facing charges for first-degree murder alongside child endangerment and illegal weapon possession. Officials have indicated a prior relationship between Smith and Jackson-Small, signifying that this was not a random act of violence.

In a heartfelt tribute, Smith’s aunt, Kira Helper, expressed her sorrow on a GoFundMe page established to support the grieving family. “Imani had infinite potential ahead of her. She was a vibrant and incredibly talented individual. Her role as Young Nala was a testament to the joy and creativity she shared with the world,” Helper noted.

The GoFundMe initiative aims to collect $55,000 to assist Imani Smith's parents, Monique Rance-Helper and Rawni Helper. Imani leaves behind her three-year-old son, her parents, aunt, and two younger siblings.

The community is united in mourning the untimely loss of a gifted talent whose bright future was abruptly dimmed.
