The war drama Ikkis, helmed by noted director Sriram Raghavan and produced by Maddock Films, has demonstrated remarkable box office stability since its debut on January 1. This film is Agastya Nanda’s first foray into cinema, as he follows in the footsteps of his legendary grandfather, Amitabh Bachchan, with earnings that have reached Rs 26.35 crore within just nine days.
On its ninth day alone, Ikkis garnered an additional Rs 85 lakh, indicative of its growing appeal among audiences. According to industry analysis from Sacnilk, the Hindi occupancy rate was at 11.57% during the film’s second Friday (January 9). Specific showtimes attracted varying attendance, with morning shows capturing a 6.75% occupancy, afternoon shows at 10.43%, evening showings at 13.36%, and night screenings leading with 15.74% occupancy.
Set against the backdrop of the historic Battle of Basantar during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Ikkis narrates the poignant tale of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who heroically lost his life at the young age of 21 and was honored posthumously with the Param Vir Chakra, India’s supreme military accolade. The film intertwines compelling battle sequences with heartfelt storytelling, promising a deeply engaging cinematic experience.
In addition to Agastya Nanda, the film features seasoned actors like Dharmendra, Simar Bhatia, Vivaan Shah, Sikandar Kher, and Jaideep Ahlawat. This film holds special significance as Dharmendra’s final performance, given his passing in November at the age of 89. Before his death, he conveyed a poignant message inviting audiences to experience Ikkis, complimentary of director Sriram Raghavan’s artistic vision and the film's emotional resonance.
Through its potent fusion of gripping war narrative, stellar performances, and heartfelt storytelling, Ikkis has established itself as a standout film of the year, making a meaningful impact on viewers across India.
