Hrithik Roshan Brings Humor to War 2’s Box Office Disappointment

Post by : Mina Rahman

Actor Hrithik Roshan has humorously acknowledged the underwhelming reception of his much-anticipated action thriller War 2, which has struggled at the box office.

War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan alongside Jr NTR, hit theaters on August 14, strategically timed with the Independence Day holiday. This installment is part of the successful YRF Spy Universe, following blockbusters like Ek Tha Tiger and Pathaan. Despite high expectations, the movie garnered mixed reviews and fell short of financial forecasts, earning ₹236.55 crore domestically and ₹364.35 crore globally, which paled in comparison to its estimated ₹400 crore budget. Critics noted issues with the screenplay and visual effects, which contributed to its lackluster performance.

At a recent event held at Coca Cola Arena in Dubai, Hrithik was introduced on stage with accolades as a “global icon,” to which he replied humorously, “That’s very generous of you… My film just tanked at the box office, so it feels wonderful to receive all this love. Thank you.” His candidness resonated well with the audience, who appreciated his relatable demeanor.

Prior to this, Hrithik shared glimpses from behind the scenes on Instagram, expressing joy about portraying Kabir, the film's protagonist, asserting, “Playing Kabir was incredibly enjoyable. It felt so natural, easy to step back into that role.” He acknowledged the guidance of director Ayan Mukerji, crediting him for fostering a supportive environment on set.

Reflecting on the unforeseen results of the film, Hrithik mentioned that despite feeling confident during filming, doubts stirred in the back of his mind: “This feels too effortless… I’m too familiar with it all.” He concluded that not every film journey requires an arduous struggle, encouraging himself to “just relax.”

Alongside Hrithik, War 2 featured Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles. The film also faced fierce box office competition from Rajinikanth's Coolie, impacting its overall earnings. Despite the mixed reception, Hrithik’s witty response and genuine attitude towards the film's outcomes have garnered admiration from fans, showcasing his graceful handling of disappointments.
