Honda Issues Recall for 406K Civics Due to Wheel Detachment Risk

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In a significant safety initiative, Honda Motor has announced the recall of 406,290 vehicles in the United States after discovering a production defect that may result in aluminum alloy wheels detaching while on the move. This issue has raised safety alarms among owners of the impacted vehicles.

The recall specifically targets certain 2016-2021 Honda Civic models that feature 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels marketed as accessories. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has verified that the defect arises from the wheel hub assembly, which might not securely fit during standard driving conditions.

Honda dealerships nationwide are set to inspect the wheels and will replace both the hubs and wheels when necessary, all at no cost to the vehicle owners. This proactive measure aims to avert possible accidents or injury. Honda vehicle owners are urged to reach out to local dealerships as soon as possible to arrange for an inspection.

This recall serves as a reminder of the critical importance of regular vehicle upkeep and the increasing focus on accessory components, even from reputable manufacturers. Although Honda has yet to report widespread incidents, this precautionary recall reflects the brand’s dedication to safety.

For vehicle owners, staying alert and responding swiftly is essential. Properly fitting wheels and hubs can significantly reduce the risk of hazardous situations while driving.
