Hema Malini Reflects on Dharmendra's Life with First Wife

Post by : Mina Rahman

It's well-known that the celebrated Bollywood duo, Hema Malini and Dharmendra, live apart. Recently discharged from Breach Candy Hospital, Dharmendra resides with Prakash Kaur, his first wife, with whom he has four children, including actors Sunny and Bobby Deol.

On Tuesday, Hema Malini addressed false rumors regarding the actor’s health. In a candid discussion, the 77-year-old actress and BJP MP shared her perspective on her relationship with Dharmendra and their unique living situation.

“I don't feel bothered or upset about this. I’m at peace with my life. I’ve raised two children incredibly well. Of course, he has always supported me. Ideally, no couple prefers to live apart, but sometimes, life’s circumstances dictate otherwise,” Hema candidly remarked in an interview with Lehren.

She also touched upon her understanding with Prakash Kaur in her official biography, Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl, by Ram Kamal Mukherjee.

Hema noted that her encounters with Prakash were limited to brief interactions at functions prior to her marriage with Dharmendra, and they never met again afterward.

“I never intended to impose on anyone. I am grateful for what Dharmendra has done for me and our daughters. He has been a father figure, as any parent would be. I believe I am quite content with that,” she explained in the book.

Hema, who shares daughters Esha and Ahana Deol with Dharmendra, expressed her admiration for Prakash Kaur.

“Though I have seldom mentioned Prakash, I hold her in high esteem. My daughters also honor Dharmendra’s family. While the public may wish to delve into my life, it is a matter that does not concern others,” she emphasized.

Dharmendra and Hema Malini wed in 1980, even though he was already married to Prakash Kaur, whom he wed six years before embarking on his acting career, which began with the 1960 film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere at the tender age of 19.
