Five Nutritious Food Pairings Recommended by an AIIMS-Trained Doctor

Post by : Saif Nasser

A renowned gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford has revealed five food pairings that can significantly enhance health when consumed together. Dr. Saurabh Sethi, with 25 years of expertise, emphasized that certain foods become more beneficial in combination. He shared insights on social media, highlighting how specific healthy foods can amplify digestion, heart health, immunity, and energy when effectively paired. Many individuals may eat these items separately, but Dr. Sethi pointed out that the right combinations could effectively double their benefits.

One recommended pairing is chia seeds with yogurt. Chia seeds are celebrated for aiding digestion and supporting bowel movements, while yogurt is well-known for promoting gut health. Dr. Sethi noted that the soluble fiber from chia seeds and the protein in yogurt work together to enhance digestion and prolong satiety, which can help curb unnecessary day-long cravings.

Another beneficial combination is oats with walnuts. Oats are commonly enjoyed as a nutritious breakfast, while walnuts provide healthy fats and omega-3s. Consuming these two together supports heart health and helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels, as the fiber in oats integrates with the omega-3s from walnuts to support both cardiac and cognitive functions.

Additionally, the doctor highlighted the virtues of pairing rice with beans. While rice is a staple in numerous Indian households, concerns often arise about it being a simple carbohydrate. However, Dr. Sethi explained that combining rice with beans creates a complete protein, offering all essential amino acids necessary for muscle repair and immune support.

Dr. Sethi also recommended avocado with leafy greens. Leafy greens are known for their high vitamin and mineral content; however, certain fat-soluble vitamins require healthy fats for optimal absorption. Avocados supply these necessary fats, enhancing the absorption of vitamins A, D, E, and K. This straightforward combination boosts the nutritional quality of salads and cooked greens.

Finally, pairing dark chocolate with almonds was advised. Dark chocolate is rich in magnesium, while almonds are packed with healthy fats. When consumed together, this duo can uplift mood, sustain energy, and promote stable blood sugar levels, making it a healthier snacking option.

Dr. Sethi's guidance indicates that simple dietary adjustments can lead to significant improvements in everyday health. By selecting the right food pairings, individuals can enhance nutrition from the meals they already enjoy. These combinations require no complex cooking methods and can easily be integrated into daily diets. Such straightforward habits have the potential to support heart health, digestion, immunity, and mental well-being over time.
