Royal Names Unregistered: Harry and Meghan Clarify

Post by : Shweta

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have clarified that they have not taken any legal steps to trademark their children’s names, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, amid recent media speculation. This information comes after growing curiosity following the launch of Meghan's lifestyle products.

Rumors began circulating when Meghan's Mother’s Day product line referenced the children’s birthdates, which led to assumptions about trademark filings for their names. However, sources have confirmed that no trademarks have been registered for either child.

The confusion stemmed from two candles in the Mother’s Day collection that tied to the children's birthdays—one celebrating Archie’s birthdate on May 6 and the other relating to Lilibet’s June 4 birthday. Misinterpretation intensified due to previous promotional materials that mentioned their royal titles.

Archie and Lilibet did not hold royal titles at birth; however, they became Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex after King Charles III ascended the throne in 2022. Their titles were initiated later, unlike those of Prince William’s children, who received theirs at birth.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have consistently voiced the importance of their family name and identity, with Meghan emphasizing the significance of the “Sussex” title in their narrative.

In conclusion, while the Duke and Duchess continue to grow their public brand, there is no current pursuit to trademark their children's names, with speculation arising from marketing efforts rather than legal actions.
