Gulf Air, the flag carrier of Bahrain, has made a significant move to bolster its international presence by confirming an order for 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with the option for three more. This strategic decision, unveiled during the Dubai Airshow, aims to strengthen the airline's global network and enhance the travel experience for its passengers.
With this new order, Gulf Air increases its total commitment for the 787 Dreamliners to 17, including three previously ordered in July 2025. The aircraft, renowned for their efficiency and passenger comfort, are set to facilitate the airline's ambitions for long-haul growth.
The formal agreement was signed by Martin Gauss, CEO of Gulf Air, alongside Brad McMullen, Boeing's Senior VP of Commercial Sales and Marketing. Khalid Husain Taqi, Chairman of Gulf Air Group, highlighted the significance of acquiring these aircraft, describing it as a pivotal step in the airline's fleet development strategy, focusing on increased capacity and sustainable travel.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, commended Gulf Air's choice of the 787 Dreamliner, emphasizing its efficiency and passenger-centric design. She noted that the Dreamliner is expected to play a vital role in aiding Gulf Air's operational excellence and ambitions for global reach.
Known for its aerodynamic efficiency and eco-friendliness, the 787 Dreamliner enables airlines to operate longer routes with reduced environmental impact while providing a quieter and more comfortable journey for passengers. Gulf Air's investment in these advanced aircraft underscores its dedication to enhancing Bahrain's stature within international aviation.
While the timeline for delivery remains unspecified, the anticipated order is expected to expand Gulf Air's capabilities for premium long-haul routes, offering travelers better connectivity and comfort. By augmenting its widebody fleet with this latest technology from Boeing, Gulf Air is effectively positioning itself on the global stage to meet the rising demands of international travel.
The airline's fleet expansion emerges in a fiercely competitive Middle Eastern market, where airlines continue to invest in cutting-edge aircraft and sustainable aviation solutions to entice global travelers. Gulf Air's commitment to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner highlights its dual focus on enhancing passenger experience and adhering to environmental standards.
With the integration of 15 new Dreamliners, Gulf Air stands ready to propel its growth, improve efficiency, and fortify its long-haul network, further solidifying its position as a prominent regional airline with a substantial international presence.
