Kimi Antonelli, the 19-year-old prodigy driving for Mercedes, has extended his remarkable Formula One season by clinching victory at the Canadian Grand Prix—his fourth win in a row. Dominating the race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Antonelli has solidified his position at the top of the championship rankings. His string of victories has made him one of the standout figures of the 2026 F1 season.
Starting from the front row alongside teammate George Russell after a successful qualifying session, Antonelli quickly engaged in a fierce battle for the lead. The initial phase saw both drivers exchanging positions until Russell faced a power unit failure on lap 30, forcing him to withdraw. This incident cleared the path for Antonelli to seize control and glide to victory.
In a commendable face-off, Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton secured second place, achieving his best result of the season, while Max Verstappen of Red Bull took third amid tricky track conditions. Charles Leclerc from Ferrari finished fourth, followed by Isack Hadjar and Franco Colapinto, who also managed to earn valuable points.
Montreal’s weather posed challenges throughout the weekend, with earlier predictions of rain causing teams to reassess their tyre strategies. Ultimately, the track remained predominantly dry, revealing the struggles some teams faced regarding their setups. McLaren, in particular, endured a difficult day, with Lando Norris retiring due to a gearbox issue and Oscar Piastri finishing outside the scoring positions after strategic errors and a collision penalty.
Antonelli's victory has placed him 43 points ahead of teammate George Russell in the championship standings, also making him the first Italian driver since Alberto Ascari in the 1950s to secure four consecutive F1 wins. Additionally, he holds the unique record of being the first driver to achieve his first four career victories back-to-back.
Regarded as one of the brightest talents in motorsport today, Antonelli’s composed driving and consistency have earned him praise from fans and experts alike. Social media celebrated his latest achievement, with many suggesting he could be a future world champion.
Mercedes has reinforced its advantage in the constructors’ championship with this successful outing. Team principal Toto Wolff commended Antonelli's exceptional talent and poise under pressure. With several races still ahead in the season, his winning momentum positions him as a formidable contender for the title and heightens excitement for the upcoming races.
