George Clooney and Family Acquire French Citizenship for a Private Life

Post by : Mina Rahman

The French government has officially bestowed citizenship upon Hollywood icon George Clooney, his wife, human rights attorney Amal Clooney, and their twins, Ella and Alexander. This notable announcement appeared recently in the Journal Officiel, the official publication that documents formal government actions.

Amal Clooney was naturalized using her maiden name, Amal Alamuddin, honoring her identity before marriage. The official declaration also included George Clooney’s full name alongside his middle name, Timothy. This naturalization represents a significant point for the family, who have established deeper connections to France since acquiring a countryside estate in 2021.

Following the purchase of their property, George and Amal Clooney have made France their primary residence. Earlier this year, George spoke about the motivations behind their relocation. He voiced concerns regarding raising their children amidst the pervasive Hollywood culture in Los Angeles, stating, “I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., with the Hollywood culture. I don’t want them worrying about paparazzi or being compared to other famous kids.”

Settling in France allows their twins a more private and ordinary upbringing away from the intense global attention. Clooney elaborated on the benefits of living in France, which fosters a grounded lifestyle for their children, emphasizing family dinners and limited screen time, a stark contrast to the fast-paced fame often found in Hollywood.

Though the Clooney family now has French citizenship, it remains uncertain whether George Clooney has retained his American citizenship. Amal Clooney, who was born in Lebanon and grew up in the U.K., alongside their London-born twins, now officially hold French citizenship as a result of this naturalization.

This development highlights the Clooney family’s dedication to privacy and a balanced family life, opting for the tranquility of the French countryside over the bustling celebrity environment of Los Angeles to raise their children.
