Dubai International Airport (DXB), one of the busiest transit hubs globally, encountered significant disruptions on Thursday morning due to heavy fog. The poor visibility conditions resulted in the diversion of 19 inbound flights to alternative airports until about 9:00 am local time, impacting numerous travelers and airline schedules.
A representative from Dubai Airports confirmed the diversions, stating that the authority is “collaborating closely with airlines, air traffic control, and all airport stakeholders to restore normal operations as swiftly as possible.” Passengers were strongly encouraged to check their flight details with airlines prior to arriving, as ongoing delays may persist.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued weather alerts early on Thursday, cautioning that visibility in various regions had fallen below 1,000 meters. Conditions are expected to improve gradually as the day unfolds.
Additionally, safety advisories were issued for road users. Authorities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi advised drivers to exercise caution, particularly on highways and in congested areas. Abu Dhabi’s electronic information boards displayed temporary speed limits to assist motorists in adjusting to the visibility challenges.
The dense fog not only impacted air travel but also impeded daily traffic dynamics, illustrating the difficulties extreme weather presents to transportation across the UAE. Airport officials and local authorities are maintaining close coordination to ensure safety for both air and surface transport. Travelers are urged to allocate extra time for their journeys and stay updated on official traffic reports to avoid potential accidents.
This occurrence reflects typical seasonal weather patterns in the UAE, where early morning fog and visibility issues can significantly disrupt operations at key transport locations. Authorities are vigilantly monitoring the situation and remain poised to implement further strategies to mitigate prolonged disruptions to air travel and maintain public safety.
