Father and Cousin Convicted in Gruesome Murder for Insurance Payout

Post by : Raina Nasser

A disturbing case has emerged from China, where a father has been found guilty of plotting with his cousin to murder his own seven-year-old son to obtain insurance funds. This tragic event, which took place in 2020, gained public attention following the release of comprehensive court documents by the Fujian Provincial Court.

Zhang, living in Sanming city, reportedly devised the plan after confronting his wife’s infidelity and dealing with financial strain. The heart-wrenching scheme involved Zhang instructing his son to stand by the roadside right before his cousin deliberately collided a truck into the car, resulting in the boy's immediate death.

Footage from the scene depicted Zhang mourning over his son’s lifeless body until the authorities arrived. Initially, the cousin attributed the fatal incident to distraction, and neither man revealed their relationship to law enforcement.

Upon investigation, it was determined that Zhang received an insurance payout of 80,000 yuan (approximately $12,000), from which he transferred 30,000 yuan to his cousin. Further inquiries by the insurance company exposed falsified documents, prompting deeper investigations and arrests.

The Fujian Provincial Court has sentenced Zhang to death, although details regarding his final appeal are not available. Meanwhile, his cousin received a similar sentence, with a two-year reprieve and a fine of 30,000 yuan.

This case has ignited widespread outrage in China, with social media users expressing their abhorrence, deeming the act unthinkable. One social media commentator wrote, “Even a tiger will not eat its own cub,” emphasizing the public's disgust and anger at this heinous crime.

This shocking case serves as a harsh reminder of the destructive nature of greed and the far-reaching effects that domestic disputes can have on families and communities.
