Farhan Akhtar Discusses Challenges and Delays of Jee Le Zaraa Project

Post by : Mina Rahman

Bollywood actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has opened up about the unexpected and prolonged delay of his directorial endeavor, Jee Le Zaraa. Announced in 2021, the film features leading stars Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt, and Priyanka Chopra, but has been marred by scheduling conflicts causing significant uncertainty for Farhan.

After the release of Toofan in 2021, Farhan intentionally turned down multiple acting roles, banking on the film's imminent production. He emphasized that directing required full immersion, informing many of his unavailability in anticipation of the project’s launch. However, as time stretched on, he found himself increasingly frustrated.

The prolonged wait began to weigh heavily on him. Farhan expressed feelings of lost time, having invested nearly two and a half years in anticipation of the film. The lengthy hiatus since his last directorial, Don 2 in 2011, added to his anxiety, leaving him concerned about public perception of his directorial skills. Seeking guidance from a therapist helped him dissect the mounting pressure, yet his emotional investment in the project made detaching challenging.

The excitement surrounding the original casting announcement was palpable, as it brought together three leading actresses for a road-trip drama exploring friendship and personal growth. However, aligning their schedules proved arduous. Even though Farhan completed location scouting and music recording, filming was delayed due to ongoing scheduling conflicts.

Recently, Farhan indicated that the original cast might change in future iterations of the film. While he refrained from confirming casting specifics, he affirmed the project would continue, with most groundwork completed and a renewed timeline ahead.

As negotiations for Jee Le Zaraa continue, Farhan Akhtar is currently featured in the war drama 120 Bahadur, portraying Major Shaitan Singh. This film recounts the bravery displayed during the Battle of Rezang La in the 1962 Sino-Indian War by a small contingent of Indian soldiers against a much larger adversary. Additionally, Farhan is preparing to start work on Don 3 set for a 2026 release, with Ranveer Singh in the lead role, while the female lead remains undecided.
