Farah Khan Reflects on Early Marriage Challenges

Post by : Mina Rahman

Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has recently opened up about the challenges she faced early in her marriage to Shirish Kunder, highlighting how their differing personalities resulted in disputes during their initial years together.

Diving into her experiences during a podcast episode hosted by tennis star Sania Mirza, Farah recalled the tensions that arose when she urged Shirish to accompany her to social events.

“People would often overlook him and focus solely on me because my success was more pronounced at that time. This made him feel ill at ease,” expressed Farah. She continued, “It’s a universal issue where people gravitate toward the more successful individual. Neither of us liked that. Eventually, we came to the agreement that if he felt uneasy in certain social settings, he wasn't obliged to attend. His happiness is my priority.”

Moreover, Farah elaborated on her choice to maintain privacy in her personal life, stating, “We are confident in our relationship and don't feel the need for public displays of affection like holding hands on the red carpet. Often, I perceive that when couples are overly affectionate publicly, something might be amiss.”

The couple met in the early 2000s when Shirish edited Farah's directorial debut, Main Hoon Na. They have collaborated on several projects, including Jaan-E-Mann, Om Shanti Om, and Tees Maar Khan. Married in 2004, they welcomed triplets, Diva, Anya, and Czar, in 2008. Despite their prominent careers, Farah seldom shares family moments on social media, choosing to keep her domestic life under wraps.

Since directing Happy New Year in 2014, Farah has taken on new ventures, such as hosting Celebrity MasterChef and maintaining a burgeoning YouTube channel featuring celebrity cooking content with her chef Dileep.
