Outrage Erupts Worldwide Following Red Fort Explosion in Delhi

Post by : Raina Nasser

New Delhi — A wave of sorrow and disbelief has swept across the globe following a car explosion close to Delhi’s Red Fort that resulted in nine fatalities and injured over 20 individuals on Monday evening. Confirmed as a terrorist attack by investigative authorities, the blast occurred adjacent to Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort metro station.

The explosion caused a fire that consumed multiple nearby vehicles, scattering broken glass and twisted metal throughout the vicinity. Immediate investigations were launched, placing notable sites in Delhi — including metro stations, airports, and government offices — on high alert.

Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that a Hyundai i20 was linked to the attack, stating, “We are considering all avenues and will perform a comprehensive investigation,” while emphasizing that CCTV footage from surrounding areas will be thoroughly reviewed.

Condolences and Global Response

Countries including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Argentina, Sri Lanka, Iran, Morocco, and Australia expressed their condolences and issued safety advisories for citizens in India.

The US Embassy in New Delhi encouraged its citizens to “steer clear of the areas around the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk” and to maintain vigilance, stating, “Our thoughts are with those impacted by this tragic explosion in New Delhi,” while confirming reports of multiple casualties.

In a similar vein, the UK High Commission updated its travel guidelines, advising British citizens to heed local authorities’ directions. “My deepest sympathies go out to all who have been affected by the blast near the Red Fort,” remarked Lindy Cameron, the British High Commissioner to India.

French Ambassador Thierry Mathou conveyed condolences “on behalf of the French people and government,” and Argentina’s Ambassador Mariano Caucino expressed solidarity, offering prayers for the victims’ families.

Condemnations and messages of support also poured in from Sri Lanka, Morocco, Australia, and Iran, highlighting their solidarity with India during this somber period.

Ongoing Investigation

Preliminary investigations suggest the blast might have been orchestrated to target the bustling evening rush hour near the iconic site, one of Delhi’s most frequented locations. Forensic and anti-terrorism units have been deployed to gather evidence from the scene.

Authorities confirmed that at least eight victims were either in or near the vehicle at the time of the explosion. Identifications of the deceased are pending.

The Delhi Police, National Investigation Agency (NIA), and intelligence agencies are collaborating to trace the explosives' origin and any possible connections to terror groups.

Nationwide Security Enhancements

In response to the explosion, security measures have intensified not only in Delhi but also across major cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Authorities have encouraged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior.

As the nation grieves, this incident has reignited crucial discussions on urban security and readiness amid increasing global terror threats.
