In a significant move for traffic management, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP), has officially unveiled the expanded bridge leading to Terminal 1 of Dubai International Airport.
This enhancement has increased the number of traffic lanes from three to four, elevating the bridge's capacity from 4,200 vehicles per hour to 5,600 vehicles per hour, marking a 33% improvement in traffic handling. The expansion is designed to facilitate better traffic flow, shorten travel times, and enrich the overall experience for travelers.
Utilizing a cutting-edge design of steel box girders paired with a composite concrete deck, the construction was executed without diverting traffic on Airport Street or requiring temporary supports beneath the bridge, thereby maintaining continuous movement and high safety standards.
Additional enhancements included improvements to road pavement, utilities, landscaping, and new street lighting aimed at boosting visibility and safety.
This initiative reflects RTA’s ongoing commitment to refining Dubai’s road infrastructure and connectivity to key facilities. It also plays a crucial role in supporting the expansion of Dubai International Airport, which ranks as the busiest airport globally for international passengers, ensuring that the infrastructure aligns with both current and future demands.
RTA and DAEP continue to affirm their dedication to developing efficient transport systems that bolster connectivity and elevate Dubai’s status as a premier global aviation and travel hub.
