Top officials and experts from the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council convened in Milan on Friday, initiating significant dialogues aimed at bolstering collaboration during increasingly unstable regional circumstances.
This prominent gathering took place at the Palazzo Clerici, orchestrated by the Doha Forum and MED Dialogues in collaboration with the Italian Institute for International Political Studies and Center for International Policy Research.
Under the theme “Bridging Stability: EU-GCC Cooperation in an Era of Fragmentation,” participants concentrated on devising coordinated strategies to tackle escalating regional issues and the shifting geopolitical dynamics post recent Middle Eastern conflicts.
The agenda included discussions on the ongoing crisis related to Iran and its broader repercussions on regional stability, global energy markets, and economic security. The dialogue also underscored the necessity for enhanced collaboration between the EU and GCC concerning security, crisis management, energy resilience, and trade.
Significant focus was directed towards the Gulf region, the Levant, and critical maritime trade routes essential for global commerce and energy provision.
A plenary session showcased insights from Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Adviser to the Prime Minister and official spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside Luigi Di Maio.
During the session, Dr. Al Ansari characterized the Gulf as a “stable partner for Europe in security and energy,” and noted that the current regional turmoil underscores the mutual interests that bind both regions.
He emphasized that future stability hinges on ongoing, structured cooperation capable of navigating periods of unrest and heightened regional tension.
Luigi Di Maio articulated that security in both the Gulf and Europe is “inescapably linked,” advocating for the establishment of stronger partnerships and trust to address shared challenges effectively.
Private discussions at the event revolved around the future regional order post-conflict, defense collaboration, energy security, and industrial policy. Participants highlighted the importance of transforming diplomatic dialogue into actionable, coordinated measures.
The gathering concluded with a reception hosted by the Consulate General of Qatar in Milan.
Furthermore, organizers announced that the upcoming 24th edition of the Doha Forum will be held in Doha on December 5–6, 2026, under the banner “Redefining Global Trust,” aimed at uniting world leaders and policymakers to discuss international cooperation and confidence-building in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
