Etihad Airways is making a big upgrade to its flights between Sydney and Abu Dhabi. Starting October 1, 2025, the airline will begin using the new Airbus A350-1000 on some flights. This plane will join the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner that already flies on this route. Both planes will have Etihad’s newest Business Class seats, called Business Suites.
By January 31, 2026, Etihad will use the A350-1000 for all 10 weekly flights from Sydney. This means every flight will have the latest and most comfortable plane. At the same time, Melbourne will get daily flights with Etihad’s newest 787-9 planes. These planes will also have Business Suites and more seats for premium passengers.
Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, said he is very happy about the upgrade. He said, "We are excited to offer more premium travel choices to Australia with our new A350 on this important route. When all flights use the A350 next year, we will have 10% more seats overall and over 20% more premium seats."
The A350-1000 is a modern plane focused on comfort and innovation. It uses Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines that burn 25% less fuel and produce 25% less CO2 than older planes. Inside, the cabin is designed carefully for a better experience.
The Business Class has 44 Business Studios with sliding doors for privacy. Each seat faces forward and has direct access to the aisle. The seats turn into fully flat beds that are 79 inches long. There is plenty of storage space, noise-cancelling headphones, and an 18.5-inch TV screen for entertainment. The seats also have wireless charging and Bluetooth for headphones.
In Economy Class, there are 327 Smart Seats. These seats can recline in a new way and have 13-inch touch screens with Bluetooth headphone connection. All passengers will get free Wi-Fi for chatting, and they can pay extra if they want full internet access during the flight.
This upgrade shows Etihad’s commitment to making flying better, more comfortable, and more eco-friendly for passengers flying between Australia and Abu Dhabi.
