Etihad Airways has announced a significant enhancement to its fleet, ordering 32 additional Airbus widebody aircraft in a move that underscores its ambition to be a leader among global full-service airlines. The order comprises A350-1000s, A350F freighters, and A330-900s, acquired through both direct purchases and lease agreements, with deliveries set to commence in 2027—one of the earliest times slots for widebody deliveries worldwide.
This fleet expansion follows another announcement earlier in 2025, where Etihad secured 28 Boeing widebody aircraft, totaling 60 new aircraft orders this year across Airbus and Boeing models. This strategic investment aims to augment capacity, enhance its international presence, and elevate premium travel offerings for passengers.
Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, highlighted that, “The acquisition of 32 additional widebodies starting in 2027 shows Etihad’s proactive approach in ensuring early delivery slots, crucial for navigating global capacity limitations. This growth ensures superior travel experiences and attracts more tourists to Abu Dhabi.”
He also reiterated the airline's commitment to the future of Abu Dhabi as a vital global hub, stating that with 60 new aircraft geared up this year, Etihad is on track to develop one of the most advanced and flexible long-haul fleets available.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Sales, noted, “Etihad Airways’ ongoing investment in next-gen widebodies showcases our fruitful partnership and a shared vision for the future of aviation in the UAE and beyond. The combination of the A350 Family and A330neo will bring unparalleled efficiency and adaptability to Etihad’s services, facilitating its growth and global reach.”
This expansion is timely as the aviation industry continues to recover from the pandemic, with many airlines focusing on modern, fuel-efficient aircraft. Etihad’s proactive investments ensure it remains competitive, environmentally conscious, and aligned with the increasing demand for global travel, while bolstering Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a prime destination and transit hub.
By claiming early delivery slots and diversifying its fleet with both Airbus and Boeing models, Etihad is positioned to meet rising passenger demand, amplify cargo operations, and offer long-term operational flexibility.
The growth in Etihad’s widebody fleet marks a key milestone in the UAE’s aviation sector, reflecting confidence in its expansion and commitment to providing top-tier service and efficiency to travelers worldwide.
