A striking art exhibition at the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan located in Ashgabat has garnered significant attention, shining a spotlight on the creativity and skill of the country’s budding artists in painting and sculpture. The event showcased over 100 artistic pieces by five gifted students from the respective departments.
Noteworthy among the displayed works are several that have already earned a place in the Academy’s esteemed Golden Collection, illustrating the high caliber of artistry demonstrated by these young talents. The exhibition served as a testament to both the technical prowess and the profound cultural identity reflected in contemporary Turkmen artistic expressions.
Among the highlights were sculptures by the student Serdar Jumayev, including a bust of esteemed vocalist and People’s Artist of Turkmenistan, Atajan Berdiyev. Another significant piece featured a tribute to his mentor, the famed sculptor Babasary Annamyradov, depicted holding a large apple—a symbol closely tied to the artist’s unique creative vision. This particular sculpture not only impressed attendees but also left the teacher astonished, as it was created entirely from memory.
Additionally, student Jumamurat Gurbanov presented the expansive painting, “Music of Peace, Music of Friendship,” capturing the essence of a vibrant public festivity in the modern city of Arkadag, which became a focal point of the exhibition. Gurbanov also showcased a portrait of his teacher, Annadurdy Almamedov, celebrated for its realistic portrayal and honest artistic sentiment.
Arzuv Atayev, another young talent, contributed several works, including the acclaimed piece “Who’s First!” which has now secured a place within the Academy’s Golden Collection. This artwork beautifully encapsulates the heightened emotions of cyclists on the brink of competition, highlighting the psychological depth that defines Atayev’s artistry.
Participating student Bayly Aynazarov received accolades for his “Heavenly Horses” series, celebrating the renowned Akhal-Teke horses of Turkmenistan. His portrayal of the celebrated poet Magtymguly Fragi was particularly praised as an exceptional artistic interpretation of the historic figure.
Sculptor Guljan Shokhratgeldiyeva captivated audiences with her emotionally rich sculptures, especially those depicting Alabay dogs and children. Her piece, “The First Step,” illustrating a child being supported by his mother as he ventures into the world, stood out as a favorite among the exhibition’s attendees.
Teachers and organizers hailed the exhibition as a pivotal moment for the student artists as they embark on their professional journeys. Visitors lauded the event for encapsulating both the enduring traditions of Turkmen art, while also embracing the innovative spirit of a new generation of artists.
