The social media service X, owned by Elon Musk, has launched a fresh functionality for its Following timeline, enhancing the way users view posts from accounts they follow. This update, introduced on November 27, 2025, leverages X's AI chatbot, Grok, to order posts based on engagement levels and anticipated user interest.
Previously, the Following feed exhibited posts in a rigid chronological manner, but with this new feature, users will first see the posts deemed most interesting. Grok assesses user interactions to identify which posts are likely to resonate more, keeping users updated with content from their followed accounts.
Elon Musk announced this update via his X account, encouraging users to refresh their app to fully utilize the new ranked timeline. He mentioned that users still have the option to revert to the chronological feed if they desire a more traditional, unfiltered approach.
Grok, the AI system behind this ranking feature, elaborated, “I’m ordering your Following feed to prioritize the most engaging posts based on what I believe you will appreciate.” Users can easily switch to the chronological view through the feed menu.
To access the new feature, users must update their X app on either iOS or Android platforms and navigate to the Following tab. The Grok-driven ranking will automatically elevate posts from accounts they are following. This system is intended to enrich the user experience by avoiding irrelevant content from unconnected accounts.
In addition to the Grok update, X has also broadened its verification tool named “About This Account.” This tool aids users in identifying the authenticity of profiles, particularly as the proliferation of AI-generated accounts, bots, and spam encounters rises. Initially restricted to selected X employees and accounts, this verification function is now more widely available.
This initiative aims to make X a more tailored and engaging experience, empowering users to highlight content that is most significant to them while still offering the option for conventional chronological viewing.
