Meanwhile, Memphis’ Ja Morant shone with a captivating performance, scoring 40 points, including an impressive 18 in the fourth quarter and six in overtime. Rookie Cedric Coward made a significant impact, recording career highs of 28 points and 16 rebounds. The Grizzlies mounted a strong comeback, netting the last seven points of the fourth quarter, highlighted by a daring four-point play from Jaren Jackson Jr. and two baskets from Morant to push the game into overtime. Kawhi Leonard was a powerhouse, scoring 33 points—26 of which came in the first half—as the Clippers secured their fifth consecutive win, with James Harden adding 21 points. The Kings struggled, managing just a season-low total of 90 points.
The Boston Celtics defeated the Utah Jazz 129-119, led by Derrick White’s remarkable performance. White not only scored 27 points but also recorded seven blocks, seven rebounds, and six assists, making NBA history as the first player 6-foot-5 or shorter to accomplish such a feat. Jaylen Brown contributed 23 points, while Keyonte George led the Jazz with 37 points, alongside Jusuf Nurkic, who added 26 points and eight rebounds.
In a surprising turn in Detroit, the Pistons toppled the Los Angeles Lakers 128-106, dousing LeBron James’ 41st birthday celebration. Cade Cunningham excelled for Detroit with 27 points and 11 assists, while Marcus Sasser and Isaiah Stewart significantly contributed.
