Dubai Chamber Promotes Business Ties with Cambodia

Post by : Mara Rahim

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce has successfully concluded its trade mission to Malaysia and Cambodia, aiming to strengthen business ties in Asia. This initiative resulted in 189 business-to-business meetings in Phnom Penh, opening new avenues for collaboration between firms from Dubai and Cambodia across diverse sectors. These discussions were pivotal for both parties, enabling them to identify mutual interests and areas ripe for trade expansion.

A highlight of the visit was the “Doing Business with Cambodia” forum, organized by the Dubai Chamber in collaboration with the UAE Embassy in Thailand, along with several Cambodian entities including the Ministry of Commerce and the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce. This platform gathered key government officials and business figures from both countries.

Distinguished speakers at the forum included Tekreth Kamrang from Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce and Neak Oknha Kith Meng, representing the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce. Salem AlShamsi, Dubai Chambers’ Executive Vice President of International Relations, also contributed by sharing insights, as did Suon Sophal from the Cambodia Investment Board, who discussed the nation’s economic progress and strategic growth initiatives.

With over 357 participants, including business leaders and officials, the forum underscored significant interest in the possibilities existing within both Dubai and Cambodia. Attendees were particularly keen on how businesses in Dubai can forge partnerships in Cambodia and how Cambodian enterprises can leverage Dubai’s regional market advantages.

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce provided an extensive overview of Dubai’s business landscape, articulating its status as a premier global trade and investment center. Highlighted were the emirate’s logistical advantages, policies favorable to business, as well as its access to markets spanning the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia—factors that position Dubai as an appealing entry point for Cambodian businesses pursuing international growth.

The Council for the Development of Cambodia presented details about the country's evolving economy, discussing its business frameworks, developmental tactics, and attractive investment conditions. The session also spotlighted sectors in Cambodia poised for foreign investment, inviting Dubai enterprises to explore long-term prospects.

Dubai Chamber identified key industries ripe for future bilateral trade and collaboration, which include aluminium, iron and steel, beverages, furniture, mattresses, and aircraft components. Furthermore, Dubai businesses were encouraged to investigate opportunities in Cambodia’s tourism, transportation, textiles, consumer goods, warehousing, construction, and infrastructure sectors.

Emphasizing the chamber's dedication to fostering global growth for Dubai businesses, Salem AlShamsi noted that initiatives like this enhance Dubai's role as a global industry leader, paving the way for beneficial new investment avenues for both nations. He stressed that the aim extends beyond mere trade figures, focusing instead on cultivating sustainable and enduring business relationships.
