In a thrilling encounter, the Los Angeles Lakers edged past the Utah Jazz with a 108-106 victory on Sunday night. Luka Doncic showcased his prowess by scoring 33 points and collecting 11 rebounds. LeBron James made a significant impact in his first away game of the 2025-26 NBA season, adding 17 points alongside eight assists and six rebounds during his 34 minutes on the court. This performance came after James missed the first 14 games due to sciatica.
The decisive moments of the match occurred in the final quarter, fueled by solid performances from Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura. Reaves notched 22 points, while Hachimura contributed 13 points, enabling the Lakers to hold their advantage and stretch their winning streak to four. Utah, led by Lauri Markkanen’s late-game heroics, nearly made a comeback, with Markkanen scoring 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, including a three-pointer that narrowed the gap to 107-106. Yet, Doncic calmly made a free throw, sealing the win as Keyonte George’s potential game-winner fell short.
George stood out for the Jazz as he scored 27 points and provided eight assists, but it wasn’t enough to topple the Lakers, who exhibited a strong performance in the second half. Utah had led briefly at 74-69 after a 16-2 run, but the Lakers rapidly regained control.
The peak of the Lakers’ dominance came during a 13-0 scoring spree, highlighted by a three-pointer from Doncic, extending their lead to 98-85 with just over six minutes left. This pivotal stretch proved to be the game-changer, as the Jazz struggled to keep pace in the final minutes. Their largest lead earlier was only 67-58, underscoring the competitiveness of the match.
Furthermore, LeBron James not only made crucial baskets but also effectively orchestrated the team’s plays, showcasing his invaluable court presence and energy. His partnership with Doncic created a formidable duo that successfully repelled the Jazz’s attempts to reclaim the lead.
Deandre Ayton scored two points in a limited role before exiting midway through the second quarter due to a knee bruise. Maxi Kleber also marked his milestone by hitting his 1,000th career field goal with a crucial dunk that set the score at 107-101, giving the Lakers a needed cushion.
Through a collective effort led by Doncic, alongside contributions from James, Reaves, and Hachimura, the Lakers secured a hard-fought road win against a resilient Jazz team. The triumphant result elevates Los Angeles to a 12-4 record, while Utah slips to 5-11. Both teams demonstrated strong capabilities, but it was the Lakers’ late-game composure that clinched the victory.
This game emphasized Doncic’s scoring talent, James’ leadership qualities, and the Lakers’ depth, instilling confidence in fans for the upcoming season.
