The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has officially opened 16 new public parks in the Al Shamkhah area of Abu Dhabi City, signifying a pivotal advancement in enhancing urban livability and fostering interconnected communities.
These newly inaugurated parks are conceptualized as inclusive recreational hubs, emphasizing DMT’s commitment to providing accessible and modern public spaces tailored for residents of every age group. The facilities boast sprawling landscaped areas, eight dedicated fitness zones, 25 sports courts, and 26 play areas for children, accommodating diverse abilities. Walking pathways, shaded seating, and communal gathering spots further promote outdoor activities, relaxation, and social interaction.
Eng Khalifa Abdulla Alqemzi, Head of Capital Projects Execution – Abu Dhabi at DMT, remarked that the parks were meticulously designed to enrich the lives of residents. He highlighted the facilities' purpose of creating safe, welcoming spaces where families, friends, and neighbors can unite. In alignment with the Year of Community, these parks encourage active lifestyles, bolster social ties, and cultivate a stronger sense of belonging within the community.
The new parks in Al Shamkhah are part of a wider initiative to establish community spaces throughout the capital this year. Similar developments have recently taken place in Al Falah district and Mohamed bin Zayed City, underscoring DMT's broader strategy to create well-integrated neighborhoods that support health, well-being, and social cohesion.
By enhancing the accessibility of high-quality public spaces, DMT is steadfastly upholding Abu Dhabi’s vision of fostering people-oriented urban environments that improve the quality of life while promoting sustainable community living across the emirate.
