His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan has assessed ongoing initiatives focused on safeguarding groundwater and enhancing water security across the Al Ain Region. This effort emphasizes better water usage, the implementation of advanced irrigation techniques, and the increased reuse of treated water in industrial sectors.
The meeting with a delegation from the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), led by Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, covered important projects for sustaining groundwater resources, improving emergency response protocols, and reinforcing monitoring systems to mitigate depletion and pollution.
Sheikh Hazza reiterated the necessity of harmonizing developmental goals with environmental stewardship during the discussion. He called for innovative approaches and stronger collaborations within the community to encourage responsible water usage, aligning with the UAE’s sustainability objectives.
Moreover, officials talked about regulations to manage groundwater extraction and prohibit unauthorized well drilling on farms, aiming to preserve water reserves and foster sustainable practices. They are also launching awareness campaigns and incentives to educate farmers and livestock owners about the hazards of unregulated water extraction.
The EAD outlined its future strategic priorities for 2026–2030, focusing on specialized programs designed to safeguard natural resources, enhance water security, and support ecological sustainability in the Al Ain Region.
The meeting concluded with gratitude from the EAD delegation to Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed for his steadfast support, affirming their dedication to environmental preservation and responsible resource management for generations to come.
Notable attendees included Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Engineer Faisal Ali Al Hammadi.
