Dhurandhar Surpasses Rs 1100 Crore but Sees Weekend Drop

Post by : Mina Rahman

Ranveer Singh’s action-packed spy thriller, Dhurandhar, has achieved remarkable success at the global box office, surpassing the significant milestone of Rs 1100 crore worldwide. This accolade secures its status as one of the highest-grossing Indian films in history. However, following an exceptional run, it is beginning to exhibit signs of decline, particularly noted on its fourth Friday when it recorded its lowest single-day earnings.

On that particular Friday, Dhurandhar earned Rs 9.70 crore at the domestic box office, increasing its total Indian gross to Rs 794.20 crore. Overall, cinema occupancy dipped to 18 percent, with morning shows seeing the least attendance at just 9.65 percent. In contrast, the afternoon and evening screenings drew more viewers, with occupancy rates reaching 20.32 percent and 21.93 percent respectively.

Occupancy rates revealed regional breakdowns as well, with the National Capital Region (NCR) maintaining a healthy 20 percent across 921 shows, showcasing a solid audience engagement. Meanwhile, Mumbai’s engagement was slightly lower, at 18.33 percent across 633 shows. This trend indicates a notable decrease compared to the film’s earlier weeks, when theaters buzzed with full crowds.

In spite of a slowdown in daily collections, Dhurandhar has managed to eclipse the overall global box office lifetime earnings of other major Bollywood films like Pathaan (Rs 1,069.85 crore) and Jawan (Rs 1,163.62 crore), firmly placing it as the sixth highest-grossing Indian movie of all time. Nonetheless, it still trails behind iconic blockbusters like KGF Chapter 2, RRR, Pushpa 2: The Rule, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, and Dangal for the top honors globally.

Remarkably, the film continues to hold its ground against new releases, outpacing films like Tu Meri Main Tera featuring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, as well as the Hollywood release Avatar: Ash and Fire. This demonstrates Dhurandhar’s enduring appeal and dedicated fan base, even several weeks post-launch.

The movie showcases an impressive cast led by Ranveer Singh, along with seasoned actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun. Produced collaboratively by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Dhurandhar premiered in theaters on December 5.

Fans are keenly anticipating the sequel, Dhurandhar 2, slated for release on March 19 this year, promising more action and suspense from this celebrated spy thriller series.
