Delivery Hero, the prominent German online food delivery service, is experiencing a significant resurgence as its operations in Asia demonstrate a robust recovery. The company’s quarterly gross merchandise value (GMV)—a crucial metric indicating total sales—has surged by 7%, reaching 12.2 billion euros ($14.2 billion), nearly aligning with analysts’ forecasts of 12.25 billion euros.
An analysis of the figures suggests that the growth is predominantly driven by a revival in South Korea, where there has been a marked increase in consumer appetite for online takeout and delivery options. This rebound is compensating for more sluggish growth rates in various European regions, while bolstering Delivery Hero's ambition to enhance its footprint in Asia.
Additionally, the company’s quick commerce division, which encompasses the delivery of groceries, household supplies, flowers, and medicines, has made headlines by achieving its first-ever quarterly profit in Q3. This segment now contributes to 7% of the total GMV, reflecting enhanced operational efficiencies and a positive forecast for attaining profitability across the division by year-end.
As the final quarter unfolds, Delivery Hero seems well-positioned to further escalate GMV growth. Analysts predict that the ongoing Asian recovery, coupled with targeted expansions in fast-moving consumer segments, could enable the company to close the year on a high note.
