Dense Fog Disrupts Delhi Air Travel as Air Quality Declines

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

As winter deepens in Northern India, dense fog is posing significant challenges for air travel in the capital city. Delhi has been experiencing notable flight delays, with visibility plummeting during the early hours, leading airlines and airports to take enhanced safety measures.

IndiGo Airlines issued a warning on Tuesday, informing travellers about the likelihood of slower flight schedules due to the prevailing fog. Passengers were encouraged to verify their flight information prior to arriving at the airport and plan their journeys accordingly. The airline reassured that its operational teams are diligently monitoring the situation to reduce disruptions and prioritize passenger comfort.

Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport also acknowledged possible interruptions in flight operations. While there has been steady improvement in services, some flights are still experiencing delays as a result of the thick fog. Travellers are urged to stay connected with their airlines for the latest updates and to avoid inconveniences. Ground personnel have been assigned to assist passengers and ensure smooth operations.

Compounding these travel challenges is the worsening air quality in Delhi. As of 8 AM, the city had an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 378, placing it in the 'very poor' category as per the Central Pollution Control Board. Residents are being advised to limit outdoor activities, as extended exposure to these conditions poses serious health risks.

With the combination of winter fog and poor air quality creating both travel disruptions and health concerns, local authorities are keeping a close watch on the evolving situation. Both passengers and residents are advised to stay vigilant, adhere to safety recommendations, and monitor weather and flight updates throughout the day.
