Deepika Padukone Emphasizes Storytelling Over Blockbuster Films

Post by : Mina Rahman

Deepika Padukone’s journey in 2025 marks a significant shift. Originally tied to two major pan-India projects, she has since parted ways with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga on the film Spirit and has also exited the Kalki 2898 AD sequel, helmed by Nag Ashwin.

In 2024, Deepika starred in the blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD alongside Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan. Her departures stirred media buzz, mainly due to her request for shorter work hours in light of her new motherhood, which led to Triptii Dimri stepping in for her role in Spirit.

During a recent interview, Deepika expressed that the allure of big-budget films has diminished for her. “At this stage, it’s not about fame, success, or money anymore. It’s not just about ₹100-crore films and even ₹500-₹600 crore ones,” she shared.

Her current focus is on storytelling and uplifting emerging talents. “What inspires me now is empowering other creatives. My team and I are committed to that—facilitating storytelling and backing new writers, directors, and producers. That’s what holds meaning for me now,” she stated.

Despite distancing herself from certain high-profile projects, Deepika has two exciting releases on the horizon. She will collaborate again with Shah Rukh Khan in King, directed by Siddharth Anand, which also features Suhana Khan and is set for release in 2026. Additionally, she is set to star opposite Allu Arjun in Atlee’s anticipated project, tentatively titled AA22xA6, due in 2027.
