De De Pyaar De 2 Sees Solid Growth with ₹34.75 Crore Opening Weekend

Anshul Sharma’s family dramedy, De De Pyaar De 2, reunites Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan following their successful collaboration in Shaitaan last year. The film achieved its highest single-day earnings on Sunday, amassing ₹13.75 crore at the domestic box office. This represented a noticeable increase from Saturday’s ₹12.25 crore, showcasing a robust 40% rise from the opening day earnings of ₹8.75 crore.

With this positive trajectory, the film concluded its opening weekend with a total of ₹34.75 crore in India, surpassing the ₹24.75 crore debut of Son of Sardaar 2 released earlier this year. Despite the attractive start, Son of Sardaar 2 ultimately reached ₹46.82 crore, as it faced competition from Saiyaara launched just prior.

While De De Pyaar De 2 has shown a better opening than some of Devgn’s other sequels, it still lags behind its predecessor, which opened with ₹39 crore (including paid previews) in 2019, eventually crossing the ₹100 crore mark with a domestic total of ₹104.13 crore. The fate of the sequel in reaching this landmark remains unclear. Even with hopes of surpassing ₹100 crore, it is improbable that it will overtake Devgn’s highest-grossing hit of the year, Raid 2, which achieved ₹173.05 crore and eclipsed the first film’s earnings.

Additionally, this film's performance trails that of their earlier project, Shaitaan, which raked in ₹54 crore during its opening weekend and concluded its theatrical run with ₹148 crore.

Looking ahead, De De Pyaar De 2 faces more obstacles, as multiple new releases are on the horizon, including 120 Bahadur, Mastii 4, Tere Ishk Mein, Gustaakh Ishq, and Dhurandhar, potentially impacting the film’s long-term box office success.
