Coriander, commonly known as dhania, serves as more than just a kitchen spice. It aids in digestion, alleviates bloating, and contributes to maintaining healthy cholesterol levels. Nutritionist Sheetal Yadav from Reaviva Holistic Health highlights that both coriander seeds and powder offer distinct health benefits.
Coriander seeds are rich in volatile oils, soluble fiber, and antioxidants. When gently chewed or brewed as tea in hot water, they release these beneficial oils gradually, providing swift relief from gas and bloating after meals. Conversely, powdered coriander plays a long-term role. When incorporated into daily meals, it supplies fiber and polyphenols that support digestion and cholesterol management consistently over time.
Coriander promotes digestive health by alleviating bloating and mild stomach troubles. Its antioxidants guard against cell damage, and its soluble fiber helps bind and eliminate cholesterol naturally. While seeds are ideal for immediate comfort, powder is perfect for continuous, daily use.
For quick relief, try chewing three to five lightly crushed seeds or enjoying a tea made by steeping a teaspoon of seeds in hot water for five to ten minutes. For everyday wellness, incorporating half to one teaspoon of coriander powder into curries, soups, dals, or raitas is an easy and effective approach. Lightly toasting the seeds before grinding can amplify their flavors and benefits. Both forms should be stored in airtight containers away from heat to preserve their potency. Freshly ground seeds deliver the best aroma and health advantages.
Sheetal Yadav suggests opting for seeds or freshly ground powder when seeking rapid digestive relief. For regular support, utilizing the powdered form daily is preferable. While coriander is beneficial for digestion and cholesterol levels, it should complement a balanced diet and not replace prescribed medications.
Many wonder if coriander can aid in lowering cholesterol. The answer is affirmative; it can support healthy cholesterol as part of a heart-healthy diet. For immediate bloating relief, whole seeds are most effective. For ongoing support, regular use of powdered coriander is recommended. Keeping seeds fresh and grinding them immediately before use maximizes both benefits and aroma.
