The 2025 San Diego Comic-Con started on Wednesday night with its Preview Night. This is a special time when people with special passes get the first look at the event. The main convention days will be from July 24 to 27. Around 135,000 fans are expected to come to the San Diego Convention Center and nearby city streets.

Colorful Costumes and Happy Smiles
On Wednesday, many fans came to the Gaslamp Quarter for Preview Night. Many wore creative costumes. Some were dressed as Superman, a couple wore full “Murderbot” outfits, someone dressed as “Eight-ball,” and another as a character from Zelda. These bright and fun costumes showed how much people love comics, movies, video games, and pop culture. Friends and families walked around, smiling, taking pictures, and having fun together.

What’s New This Year
Comic-Con will still have big shows, but some popular studios like Marvel and DC will not bring new movie announcements this year. Instead, fans will see some exciting highlights like:

  • Predator: Badlands with actress Elle Fanning in special panels
  • George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, will appear for the first time to talk about his new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art
  • A new Alien TV series called Alien: Earth will be shown, including a spooky nighttime exhibit
  • Even without big Marvel or DC film news, the convention will have a “Fantastic Four: First Steps” fan area linked to the new movie.

A Massive Event
Inside the Convention Center, fans can explore 460,000 square feet of exhibit space. This space is full of special merchandise, comic art, and displays from big companies like Lego, Nickelodeon, and Paramount. The preview hall opened right after the welcome ceremony, so fans could shop, look around, and join early activities on Wednesday evening.

Why San Diego Loves Comic-Con
City officials say the event is a huge boost for San Diego. The city’s mayor and tourism team welcomed fans, calling Comic-Con “a blockbuster” full of creativity and fun. They said it brings in about $160 million and helps local businesses, hotels, and restaurants. Since 1970, fans from all over the world have come to celebrate stories, art, and imagination.

What Fans Can Look Forward To
From Thursday through Sunday, people can attend thousands of panels and workshops about comics, films, TV, games, and more. There will also be special fan events like a Masquerade costume contest, independent film showings, and anime screenings.

Outside the main hall, there will be themed parties, street cosplay, art fairs, and food pop-ups. The neighborhoods around the convention will be full of activities for everyone—even people without badges.

Tips for Visitors
Comic-Con can get very crowded. Local sources suggest using public transport and enjoying cosplay events outside the main hall. Visitors should bring water, sunscreen, and snacks, and plan breaks in shaded areas or nearby hotels.

Even though Marvel and DC are stepping back this year, Comic-Con 2025 still promises great moments. Fans will enjoy Alien, Predator, and George Lucas' special appearance. With all the colorful costumes and buzzing energy, San Diego once again welcomes the world of imagination.
