CMU-Q Honors Class of 2026 with Graduation of 106 Students

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, affiliated with Qatar Foundation, proudly hosted its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2026, celebrating the achievements of 106 students across a range of academic disciplines.

The graduates earned degrees in Biological Sciences, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, and General Studies, showcasing their diverse educational backgrounds.

In his address, Michael Trick, the dean of CMU-Q, commended the graduating students for their remarkable resilience and determination. He acknowledged the challenges they faced globally during their university years and expressed pride in their accomplishments.

Farnam Jahanian spoke on behalf of the global Carnegie Mellon community, applauding the graduates for their dedication during uncertain times marked by geopolitical turmoil. He noted their capacity to support each other with empathy and maintain focus on their studies.

Representatives of the Class of 2026, Noora Al Kuwari and Zeina Mahmoud, expressed gratitude to the university, faculty, and broader academic community for their invaluable support throughout their journey.

The ceremony also featured special awards for outstanding achievements among students and faculty members.

Awards for Outstanding Academic Achievement were given to:

  • Zhansaya Matkenova for Biological Sciences
  • Omar Hatem Ali Khalaf for Business Administration
  • Zeina Rami Halawa for Computer Science
  • Fatou Sokhna Gueye for Information Systems

Four Qatar Campus Scholars were also recognized for their leadership and academic excellence:

  • Gana Elnajjar
  • Phat Hung Diep
  • Zeina Rami Halawa
  • Fatou Sokhna Gueye

Both Zeina Rami Halawa and Fatou Sokhna Gueye earned distinction as Andrew Carnegie Society Scholars.

Additionally, Dr. Varun Sharma was honored with the Meritorious Teaching Award in recognition of his excellence in teaching.

Following the graduation of the Class of 2026, CMU-Q’s alumni network now boasts over 1,500 graduates, playing a vital role in innovation and development within Qatar and beyond.
