Celina Jaitly Raises Voice for Detained Brother in the UAE

Post by : Mina Rahman

Actress Celina Jaitly has made a poignant appeal regarding her brother, Major (Rtd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been detained in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for more than a year. Celebrated for her activism surrounding national issues and her family's military heritage, she took to social media to convey her distress and confidence in governmental efforts to secure her brother's return.

Celina's Heartfelt Message for Her Brother

In a touching post accompanied by a photo of her brother in military attire, Celina expressed, “#mybrotherandme: My Dumpy, I hope you’re okay, I support you unconditionally, I’ve spent countless nights longing for your safety, I would sacrifice everything for you, and I trust fate will be kind to us both, my bhai, waiting for you….”

This heartfelt message has resonated widely, prompting expressions of support and prayers from fans and members of the film community for her brother's swift return.

Delhi High Court Demands Government Update

Her appeal follows a notice from the Delhi High Court to the Central Government, demanding a status report within a month concerning Major (Rtd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly's situation.

Celina has approached the High Court to seek legal and medical support for her brother through Indian authorities. In a recent directive, the court mandated the appointment of a nodal officer to facilitate communication between Celina’s family and the detained officer, ensuring he has access to legal counsel and medical care.

Celina's Persistent Call for Justice

Previously, Celina had shared a comprehensive post detailing her year-long quest for answers. She firmly stated, “For an entire year, I’ve pursued answers for you. I continue praying to our esteemed government for assistance in bringing you home safely. I place my ultimate trust in the Government of India, which I believe will go to great lengths to safeguard a fourth-generation soldier, son, grandson, and great-grandson of military veterans who devoted his youth to our nation, recognized with the COAS Commendation for Gallantry.”

Her remarks underscore her personal turmoil and her belief in the government’s diplomatic capabilities to ensure justice for her brother.

Legal Counsel and Court Developments

With legal representation from advocates Raghav Kacker and Madhav Agarwal, Celina's petition underscores the urgent need to protect her brother’s rights under international law.

The legal team reported that Major Jaitly has been in detention for over 14 months in Abu Dhabi, allegedly lacking proper access to legal and medical resources.

They noted that a nodal officer has been appointed to enhance communication between the family and the detained officer while also ensuring he receives necessary legal assistance. This approach could foster stronger bilateral relations between India and the UAE, aiding in ensuring humane treatment of detained Indian citizens.

Major (Rtd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, a distinguished officer in the Indian Army's special forces, was reportedly in the UAE on professional duties prior to his unclear detention. The reasons for his detention remain undisclosed.

His family asserts that he has been abducted and held without due legal process. Celina has consistently urged governmental intervention for his release, describing him as a “fourth-generation soldier” and a dedicated service member awarded for gallantry.

Court Hearing Rescheduled for December

The Delhi High Court has scheduled another hearing for December 4, at which time the Central Government is expected to present its detailed status report regarding the measures taken for Major Jaitly's safety and release.

The court has also instructed that regular updates be communicated to Celina and her family via the appointed nodal officer to maintain transparency in the ongoing case.

Widespread Support and Empathy

Celina Jaitly's heartfelt appeals have garnered extensive sympathy and concern across her followers, the film industry, and the armed forces community. Many have commended her resilience, urging Indian authorities to amplify diplomatic efforts for her brother’s safe return.

Having been raised in a family of military personnel, the actress frequently expresses her profound respect for the Indian Army. Her public declarations exemplify her emotional bond with her brother and her unwavering faith in national institutions for obtaining justice.

Looking Towards Diplomatic Resolution

As legal matters proceed, focus shifts to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, which may play an essential role in diplomatic talks with UAE authorities. The upcoming weeks are anticipated to be crucial in advancing efforts to bring Major (Rtd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly back to India.
