This milestone also marks the 50th anniversary of Rajinikanth's cinematic journey, a celebration spurred on by events like the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M.K. Stalin joined in, expressing his admiration and referring to Rajinikanth affectionately as the eternal “Thalaiva.”
Born as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad in Bengaluru on December 12, 1950, Rajinikanth's humble beginnings as a bus conductor paved the way for him to become one of Asia's most celebrated actors. His cinematic debut in Apoorva Raagangal (1975) led to several iconic films including Moondru Mudichu, Mullum Malarum, Billa, Moondru Mugam, and Padikkadavan, establishing him as a cultural figure.
The 1990s further cemented his legacy with major hits such as Annamalai, Baashha, Muthu, and Padayappa. His film Muthu gained immense popularity, particularly in Japan, endearing him to a global audience. In the 2000s and 2010s, Rajinikanth featured in blockbuster films like Chandramukhi, Sivaji, Enthiran, and 2.0, which set new benchmarks in Indian films.
Beyond his cinematic achievements, Rajinikanth is revered for his humility and spiritual perspective, maintaining a strong connection with his fans. His numerous accolades, including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and Dadasaheb Phalke Award, underline his iconic stature in Indian entertainment.
