A tragic incident unfolded in Tampa’s historic Ybor City on Saturday morning when a car fleeing from police crashed into a packed bar, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to 11 others.

The suspect, identified as Silas Sampson, 22, is facing several serious charges, including four counts of vehicular homicide and aggravated fleeing. Following the crash, he was taken into custody at the Hillsborough County Jail.

According to reports, the suspect’s silver sedan was first noticed by an air patrol unit for reckless driving and street racing at approximately 12:40 am. A PIT maneuver was attempted by the Florida Highway Patrol, but the driver evaded capture.

Tragically, the pursuit ended when the car lost control near Bradley’s on 7th, a well-known nightlife venue in Ybor City, crashing into pedestrians outside.

Authorities confirmed that three individuals died at the site of the incident, with a fourth victim succumbing to injuries at a local hospital. Two victims are in critical condition, while others suffered various injuries.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and everyone affected by this event,” stated Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw.

Mayor Jane Castor, the city's first female police chief, expressed her condolences online, assuring the community that every effort will be made to achieve justice.

The investigation is still active, with authorities analyzing evidence and surveillance footage from the location.

This incident has reignited the conversation surrounding high-speed police chases, which have faced increased scrutiny due to the rising number of fatalities across the nation.
