Famous rapper Cardi B appeared in a Los Angeles County court to testify in a lawsuit filed by Emani Ellis, a security guard. Ellis claims that during an argument outside an obstetrician’s office in February 2018, Cardi B scratched her face with a fingernail and spat on her. Cardi B has denied all allegations, insisting that she never physically touched Ellis.
The Incident
The alleged incident occurred in February 2018 when Cardi B was visiting Los Angeles for promotional work connected to the NBA All-Star Game. At the time, she was four months pregnant with her first child, whom she shares with rapper Offset. Cardi B had not publicly announced her pregnancy yet.
Cardi B explained that Ellis, who worked as a security guard at the obstetrician’s office, followed her into the building. Cardi B said she overheard Ellis saying her name into a phone, which appeared to be recording her. Concerned that her pregnancy might be exposed, Cardi B confronted Ellis, asking, “Why are you recording?” Ellis apologized, but the disagreement escalated quickly.
During the confrontation, Cardi B testified that Ellis was backing her into a corner. She described Ellis as “security-heavy,” saying that Ellis looked capable of controlling the space and protecting the building. Despite the tension and heated words, Cardi B said she did not physically touch Ellis.
Cardi B’s Testimony
On the second day of her testimony, Cardi B told the court, “She couldn’t get a scratch from me because I didn’t touch her.” When asked if she was angry during the argument, she admitted, “Yes, I was angry! Because I’m pregnant!” Cardi B explained that the disagreement was heated but emphasized that it never became physical.
Cardi B also discussed her acrylic nails, explaining that they were coffin-shaped and not sharp. She said her nails could not have caused the scratch that Ellis claims. Cardi B insisted that her actions were limited to verbal responses and that she never assaulted Ellis in any way.
Emani Ellis’s Allegations
Emani Ellis, the security guard who filed the lawsuit, testified earlier in the trial. She stated that the incident left her feeling humiliated and traumatized. Ellis claimed that a scratch on her face required cosmetic surgery and that she lost her job because of the event.
Ellis is seeking compensation for medical expenses, emotional and physical suffering, lost wages, and punitive damages. Although she has not publicly specified the total amount of the lawsuit, Cardi B mentioned in court that Ellis is seeking $24 million.
Supportive Testimony from Witnesses
Tierra Malcolm, a receptionist at the obstetrician’s office, also testified during the trial. She stated that she intervened during the argument between Cardi B and Ellis. Malcolm said she did not see any physical altercation between the two women. Later, Malcolm noticed a scratch on her own skin, which she assumed might have come from Ellis, as she had been standing back-to-back with Cardi B at the time.
Malcolm’s testimony appeared to support Cardi B’s claim that she did not directly touch Ellis. Her account added context to the argument, showing that there was tension but not necessarily physical assault from Cardi B.
Court Proceedings
The trial is being held in Alhambra, California, a small city outside Los Angeles. Trials involving high-profile celebrities like Cardi B are rare in this area, which has made the proceedings unusual and attracted significant media attention.
During the trial, both sides have been presenting their evidence and testimonies. Cardi B has remained calm and firm in her denials, while Ellis has shared her version of events and the impact the incident had on her life. The trial is expected to continue and conclude in the coming week, with a decision from the court pending after all arguments are heard.
Cardi B has consistently denied the allegations of assault made by Emani Ellis. She maintains that she never touched the security guard during the incident in 2018 and insists that any scratches or injuries were not caused by her.
The trial continues as both sides provide evidence and testimonies. The final decision will determine whether Cardi B will be held responsible for the claims made by Ellis. This case highlights the challenges celebrities can face when personal disputes become legal matters and the importance of detailed testimony in court.
