3.0 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes San Ramon, California

Post by : Mina Rahman

A magnitude 3.0 earthquake has been detected near San Ramon in Contra Costa County, California, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The tremor occurred on Friday evening, December 19, 2025, at 7:57 PM local time.

The quake was recorded at a shallow depth of approximately 2.9 miles, which heightens the likelihood of it being felt in nearby regions. Experts indicated that updates on the magnitude, location, and depth could still be expected as researchers further investigate and additional reports are published.

Other seismic monitoring bodies corroborated the earthquake, with the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) reporting it as a 3.0 magnitude event, while the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) indicated a slightly higher magnitude of 3.1.

Initial evaluations suggest no damage from the earthquake. Many local residents near the epicenter may have experienced minor shaking or vibrations, likely due to the shallow depth.

Weak shaking might have been felt in San Ramon and Dublin, both situated about 3 miles from the quake's center. Additional areas that could have experienced slight tremors include Danville, Pleasanton, Castro Valley, Hayward, and Livermore, all within an 11-mile vicinity.

In larger urban spaces, such as San Francisco and San Jose, it is unlikely that residents felt the earthquake.

So far, officials have reported no injuries or property damage, and locals are encouraged to remain vigilant for any potential aftershocks.
