21 Missing After Building Crash in Angeles City, Philippines

Post by : Shakul

In Angeles City, a catastrophic event unfolded as a nine-story construction building collapsed early today, resulting in at least 21 individuals reported missing. Authorities revealed that the collapse followed a severe thunderstorm that swept through the region overnight.

Rescue teams have reported hearing voices beneath the debris, instilling hope that some individuals may still be alive. At least 24 construction workers either managed to escape or were rescued during initial response efforts, with several victims requiring immediate medical care.

Within minutes of the incident, police, firefighters, and disaster-response units rushed to the scene. Over 100 responders worked diligently, using both manual and mechanical means, including sniffer dogs, to navigate through extensive rubble, twisted steel, and concrete.

Officials warned that the rescue efforts are perilous due to the site’s instability, with parts of the structure at risk of further collapse. Public Works Secretary Vinzon Dizon emphasized the need for caution as teams strive to reach any trapped individuals swiftly.

The majority of those unaccounted for are believed to be construction workers who were present inside the building at the time. Additionally, two bystanders, one a Malaysian tourist, suffered injuries when debris impacted nearby accommodations.

While local officials have not confirmed the cause of the collapse, investigations will assess the impact of the storm, construction standards, and potential structural flaws. Engineers and safety inspectors have been deployed for an extensive review of the site.

This tragic incident has drawn attention across Pampanga province, raising serious concerns about construction safety protocols in fast-growing urban centers. Angeles City, located north of Manila, has seen substantial commercial and infrastructural development due to its proximity to the Clark Freeport Zone.

Rescue operations are set to continue throughout the night as authorities work tirelessly to locate every missing worker. Family members of the trapped individuals are gathered anxiously nearby, awaiting news as emergency crews search for any signs of life.
