Billy Bob Thornton Sets the Record Straight on Blood Locket Tale

Billy Bob Thornton Sets the Record Straight on Blood Locket Tale

Post by : Mina Rahman

Billy Bob Thornton is once again revisiting the infamous narrative surrounding his past romance with Angelina Jolie. In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, Thornton shed light on the enduring rumor that claimed he and Jolie wore vials of each other’s blood—a story that has often become fodder for jokes regarding their relationship.

Thornton admitted that the situation had been exaggerated. “We each had a little locket, literally with a drop of blood in them,” he clarified, underscoring that this act was meant to be a personal and affectionate token rather than the bizarre myth the media turned it into.

“It’s a romantic little concept, and that’s all it was. But by the time all is said and done, we’re portrayed as vampires. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other’s blood, and all that ridiculousness,” Thornton added humorously.

He further reflected on the depth of their relationship, acknowledging the strong bond he shared with Jolie. “Angelina and I had an incredible time together. That was one of the best periods of my life,” he explained, highlighting how public perceptions skewed the reality of their relationship.

Despite their separation, Thornton confirmed their breakup was amicable. “We’re still really close friends. It was a very civilized split,” he noted, attributing their marital end to lifestyle differences rather than personal disagreements.

Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie first crossed paths in 1999 while working on Pushing Tin. They eloped in Las Vegas in 2000 and later planned to adopt Maddox in 2002. Their marriage officially dissolved in 2003.

Even years after their divorce, the blood-vial story continued to circulate. Thornton had previously addressed it back in 2014 during a discussion at Loyola Marymount University, explaining how Jolie had purchased a small locket kit for them to put a drop of blood inside. “Nothing more dramatic than that,” he emphasized at that time.

Thornton’s latest interview aims to finally dispel the longstanding rumors, reaffirming that the gesture was merely a personal and romantic emblem, far removed from the vampire mythology constructed by the media.
