Avatar: Fire and Ash Reaches $500 Million Globally Amid Strong Competition

Avatar: Fire and Ash Reaches $500 Million Globally Amid Strong Competition

Post by : Mina Rahman

In a remarkable display of box office prowess, James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash has debuted to impressive numbers, crossing the $500 million mark globally in just one week as of Christmas Day. According to data from Variety, the film grossed around $544 million in its first seven days. While this performance is notable, it doesn't quite reach the heights achieved by its predecessor, Avatar: The Way of Water, in 2022.

The film’s opening weekend was particularly striking, bringing in an estimated $347 million worldwide. This total included $88 million from the U.S. and Canada, complemented by $250 million from international markets. These figures establish Fire and Ash as the largest holiday release of 2025 thus far, even though it still falls short of the success of the animated feature Zootopia 2.

Following the weekend debut, the film maintained solid performance by earning an additional $24 million domestically in the subsequent days. This robust showing pushed its total global revenue to over $500 million within just a week—an impressive accomplishment given the current landscape challenges facing cinemas.

This achievement is particularly striking considering the stiff competition posed by major holiday releases like Marty Supreme and Zootopia 2. Furthermore, amid declining cinema attendance due to the rise of streaming services and evolving viewer preferences, Fire and Ash's performance stands out.

For perspective, Avatar: The Way of Water launched with approximately $134 million domestically and earned around $441 million globally in its first week. While Fire and Ash may not yet match those figures, it has demonstrated significant box office endurance and remains a fierce competitor this holiday season.
